Vehicle Description The wonderful SL Pagoda legend was born with the 230SL, it epitomizes all that is good about automotive design.
Few cars have ever been this pretty, nor enjoyed the heritage of its forebears, as was the case in 1963 when Mercedes-Benz launched the 230SL.
This 1965 Mercedes Benz 230SL is finished in Olive Green (paint code 291) with a Parchment interior and tan soft top as well as the matching color hardtop.
The exterior of the car presents in good overall condition with great luster to the paint and chrome.
The exterior paint finish appears to be free of any exposed corrosion.
The Parchment interior also shows well including the tan carpeting.
The dash does not exhibit any cracking, the dash panel present well, and the Becker radio is still in place.
Unfortunately, the underside of this Mercedes Benz 230SL needs to be replaced to make this car safe for the roads.
As can be see from the extensive pictures as well as the underside video there is considerable corrosion on the floor panels and frame supports on this car.
Due to the extent of the underside corrosion this car will be sold as a restoration project for the next buyer and not as a car that can just be registered and driven without a professional repair of the underside deficiencies.
The car starts and runs well but does smoke during start up.
This Mercedes drives well and shifts through the gears as would be expected.
Reverse is sometimes hard to find which can be repaired by replacing the shifter bushing which is a common issue with the early SL's.
If you are looking for a Mercedes SL that cosmetically presents well and you have the fortitude to have the structural repairs completed, then this is a great car for you at a reasonable price.
